After a long silence of almost three years, I am breaking the ice with this blog!

A few years ago I embarked on a new project to write a book entitled पाणिनीयव्याकरणप्रवेशिका, Gateway to The Grammar System of Pānini, dedicated to my three teachers of Vedanta and Sanskrit. The first was Swami Chinmayānanda, who introduced me to Vedanta through his public talks in New York City in 1972. The second was Swami Dayānanda, who taught me and others Vedanta for 30 months in a full time residential course at Sandeepany Sadhanalaya āśsrama in Mumbai, India in 1976-1978. Also at Sandeepany, the third teacher, Swami Prasannātmänanda (Br. Prasanna Caitanya at that time), introduced us to a great Sanskrit grammar book called Astādyayī, created by Pānini  about two millennia ago. All current grammar books are ultimately traceable to his foundational work, though many Sanskrit students may not have heard his name! I decided to show my gratitude to these three masters by writing this book. It has seven chapters, and I am currently at the final stage of reviewing them. I hope to add them as another page on this site.

I have already added a different page to this site. It is a book called पाणिनीयनिःश्रेणिः, A Ladder to Pānini’s Grammar. This book was created in 1980 at Sandeepany in Piercy, CA, during a 30-month residential course of Vedanta taught there by Swami Dayānanda in 1979-1982. For that course I designed and taught the Sanskrit course of study, and Candace Simpson and I created this book to help students understand the formal derivation of active verbs and declensions centered on Pānini sūtras. As you will see, this is a PDF of the book, which was typewritten with handwritten devanagari script. I think this is complementary to the book I am currently working on. I hope you find this new page a useful addition to this site.
